Skincare shopping should feel exciting. Instead, it often feels like homework.
There are endless ingredients to decode, trends changing every week, products promising completely different things, and a constant stream of advice telling you that your routine needs one more serum, one more active, one more step.
At The Glow Market, we think skincare can be a lot simpler than that.
The goal isn’t to use the most products. It’s to find formulas that are well suited to what your skin actually needs.
More actives doesn’t always mean better skincare
One of the biggest misconceptions in skincare is that a product with the longest list of buzzy ingredients must be the most effective.
Not necessarily.
A formula can contain retinol, peptides, vitamin C, acids, niacinamide, and antioxidants and still not be the right product for your skin. Sometimes a simple moisturizer designed really well for hydration and barrier support is exactly what your skin needs.
That’s why we like to look at skincare by concern, rather than assuming every product needs to do everything.
A great product for brightening may only be a moderate match for hydration. A deeply nourishing barrier cream may not be the best fit for acne-prone skin. And that’s completely okay.
A product doesn’t have to score highly in every category to be a great product.
It just needs to be good at the thing you need it to do.
That’s why we created The Glow Market Skin Score.
We wanted to make it easier to understand what a skincare formula is actually designed to help with.
So behind the scenes, we evaluate ingredient lists using The Glow Market Skin Score.
Instead of giving products one overall rating, we look at six different skin concerns:
Acne-Friendly
How lightweight and breakout-conscious the formula is, including potential congestion and irritation considerations.
Anti-Aging
How well the formula supports concerns like visible texture, firmness, fine lines, and overall skin quality.
Hydration
How effectively the formula attracts moisture, replenishes dryness, and helps skin hold onto hydration.
Brightening
How well the ingredients support a more radiant, even-looking complexion and address visible dullness.
Sensitive Skin
How gentle and low-irritation the formula is, while also considering soothing ingredients and common sensitizers.
Skin Barrier Support
How well the formula helps maintain, strengthen, or replenish the skin’s protective moisture barrier.
Each category receives one of five ratings:
Not Formulated For → Low Match → Moderate Match → Strong Match → Hero Match
And there’s an important distinction:
The Skin Score does not measure whether a product is “good” or “bad.”
It measures how well that particular formula is designed for a particular concern.
That matters.
A rich facial oil could be a Hero Match for Skin Barrier Support while only being a Moderate Match for Acne-Friendly.
A lightweight niacinamide serum could be a Strong Match for Brightening and acne-prone skin, but only a Moderate Match for Hydration.
Neither product is better.
They simply serve different purposes.
We also pay attention to where ingredients appear in the formula
Ingredient lists are generally arranged from highest to lowest concentration until very small percentages are reached.
So we don’t just look at whether a trendy ingredient appears somewhere on the label.
We look at where it appears.
For example, seeing niacinamide near the beginning of an ingredient list tells us something very different than seeing it near the very end.
The same goes for hydrating ingredients like glycerin, barrier-supportive oils and butters, exfoliating acids, peptides, antioxidants, and fragrance components.
It gives us a better picture of what the formula is actually built around.
So how do you make skincare shopping easier?
Start with the skin concern you most want to address.
If your skin feels tight, flaky, or dehydrated, shop Hydration and Skin Barrier Support.
If you're dealing with uneven tone or dullness, look toward Brightening.
If breakouts are your biggest concern, start with Acne-Friendly formulas.
If your skin reacts easily, prioritize Sensitive Skin.
And if smoother texture, firmness, or visible signs of aging are top of mind, browse Anti-Aging.
You may have more than one concern, of course. Most of us do.
But beginning with your top one or two priorities makes the entire process much less overwhelming.
You probably don’t need a 10-step routine either
For most people, a good skincare routine can be surprisingly simple.
A gentle cleanser.
A targeted treatment if you need one.
A moisturizer that fits your skin.
SPF during the day.
Everything else can be added because you want it, not because social media convinced you that you're doing skincare wrong without it.
We’d rather help you find four products you genuinely love and consistently use than convince you that you need fourteen.
Less guessing. More glowing.
The Glow Market Skin Score™ is ultimately about making skincare easier to shop.
Not every formula needs to be a Hero Match in every category.
And you don’t need to become an ingredient expert before buying a moisturizer.
You just need to know:
What does my skin need right now?
From there, we can help you narrow down the good stuff.
